Our Founder

Jamila Jennifer Abubakar, Ph.D.

Dr. Abubakar holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and a Master’s Degree in International Politics (with concentration in International Law and Organization) from American University, Washington, D.C., USA. She received her B.A. in Communications and Political Science from Howard University, Washington, D.C, USA.



Dr. Abubakar is the founder of Gede Foundation.  As the founder, she is responsible for furthering the mission and activities of the Foundation by promoting the foundation at the national, regional, and international levels. She is accountable for the overall management and direction of the foundation. She is committed to high-quality, non-partisan and informed policy advocacy on health, education and the development of women. Her participation in global forums at various levels allows her to promote a range of issues in the areas of HIV/AIDS, human development, gender equity, and the well-being and development of orphaned children. She is particularly involved with supporting the implementation of development programs that address the issues of HIV/AIDS and the economic needs of marginalized groups.

Dr. Abubakar worked as a consultant electoral observer for the United Nations Mission in South Africa (UNOMSA), has traveled widely, and has a vast experience as a journalist covering both national and international news. 

Dr. Abubakar is currently an assistant professor at a Middle Eastern university and teaches international relations and political science courses.
