How to Help
Please Support Gede Foundation
I AM PLEASED TO INTRODUCE YOU TO GEDE FOUNDATION, established in 2002 to address the profound health and social needs of the Children of Africa. The term “Gede” in the native language of Nigeria means “good luck and hope” and fittingly portrays the promise and spirit that we work so diligently to affect in this region.
Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and one of its most diverse in land, people and resources. It is a country with great potential, but its future is limited by the poverty and illness of its people, the most devastating of which are HIV/AIDS and malaria.
I AM PROUD TO SHARE WITH YOU the Foundation’s work for the past six years in line with its commitment to help build a hopeful future for those affected by the debilitating effects of HIV/AIDS and malaria. Through the OVC Scholarship Program, we strive to improve the lives of those who will help realize this potential – the children. We have supported a few hundred children orphaned by AIDS through regular school and skills acquisition training. There are thousands still waiting to be helped.
The Foundation’s Treatment and Care Program served about 3,000 people living with HIV/AIDS through a comprehensive approach that involves regular medical examination, counseling, free antiretroviral drugs, regular testing, and adherence sessions. More than 10,000 diagnostic tests were conducted in our laboratory for both our clients and those sponsored by our partners. Our outreach programs have offered free HIV testing for hundreds of people in communities within Abuja.
In 2007 and 2008, the Foundation partnered with several local NGOs and international organizations to provide training to health workers in Nigeria on HIV counseling and testing, and malaria prevention. We are eager to work with more partners in the coming years.
With your help, we will continue to attend to the afflicted, sustain the healthy, and create long-term solutions through education and sustained community building.
Join us in our tireless efforts to pursue this very important cause and to turn hope into real action.
