Henry

Henry was in primary school when his father died. He lives with his mother and two sisters. He likes going to school, but after his father died, her mother did not have the means to support all of her children’s education. He thought of learning a skill that would help him find a job and earn money for his family. He thought of becoming a mechanic.

Then one day, a relative introduced him to Gede Foundation. He went through the screening process and became a recipient of the scholarship program. His school fees, uniform, textbooks, writing materials, and meals were paid for by the Foundation. Since then, he has been at the top of his class.

Henry knows that many of his people are dying because of HIV/AIDS. He believes in making people aware about the disease. He believes that with education, Nigeria can be a great nation. With education, he is hopeful that he can move up in life. He dreams of one day becoming an engineer or a doctor, of building a hospital that will serve people living in the rural areas.

Like many of the beneficiaries supported by the Foundation’s scholarship program, Henry hopes to become someone -- a doctor who can heal the needy among his people, an educated person who can spread knowledge among his fellowmen, a person filled with hope in becoming an active participant in building a healthy future for his country.
